A walk through the main collections of the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, one of the world's great museums. Enjoy a Walk-along with great art and classical music.

f you only visit one museum in Russia I recommend the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg with a huge collection of European and Russian art. It is housed in the Winter Palace and the decor is worth seeing even ignoring the art. I have spent quite a few hours there over the years.

(The second recommendation in St. Petersburg is The Russian Museum with a large collection of Russian artist’s work.)

The pandemic has changed some aspects of visiting the Hermitage. All tickets to visit are made online for a specific admission time. It is $500 rubles ( about $7.50, and that is a great value) for two hours. This not near enough time, but there were no security police chasing me for staying too long. It is a bit like IKEA now, with arrows to guide your journey efficiently. You can run through in two hours, but better schedule several visits to have time to study and ponder art that peaks your interest.
