Opening of the 239th season at the Historic stage of the Mariinsky Theatre: cleaning the chandelier

The Mariinsky Theatre opened the 239th season. While performances have already been held for two weeks at the Mariinsky-II and the Concert Hall, the Historic stage is to open tomorrow, on 23 September with ballets by Michel Fokine.

This new video by MARIINSKY.TV gives us a glimpse of the preparation process: you can see how the two-ton chandelier of 23 000 crystal pendants and 230 lights is lowered with a simple mechanic gear to get clean and takes its place back for a whole season.
